« La piscine Tournesol »

The Tournesol swimming pool was built within the framework of the “one thousand swimming pools” operation initiated by the State Secretariat for Sport and Youth, following the mediocre results of the French swimmers in the 1968 Summer Olympics. Between 1972 and 1984, 180 swimming pools designed by the architect Bernard Schoeller were built in France. Representative of the industrialized architecture, this swimming pool is located in the Trinquetaille district. It is a striking feature of the Arlesian landscape owing to its strangeness and its flying saucer shape.
